4 Upcoming hatchbacks to look out for in 2020

Last month, the Auto Expo 2020 (5-12 Feb) witnessed the unveiling of various awaited hatchback cars. Soon after its successful conclusion, many of them have made to the company showrooms. However, there are still some that are anticipated and are very likely to be launched this year.

With the new cars, as buyers decide to upgrade and leave behind their old cars, the market for second-hand cars will see some hustle. And it makes sense too. To buy used cars is now simple, thanks to used car finance and the ingress of organized players in the market. Listed below are some of the hatchbacks that are expected to be launched this year in India:

New Datsun Redi-GO

The updated Redi-GO city hatch is all prepared for a launch around March-April 2020. Powered by a BS6 petrol engine, the Redi-GO facelift will see restyled exteriors and minor changes in the interior and features. The 2020 version of the stylish car will see 0.8L and 1.0L petrol engine choices under the hood.

The Datsun hatch is popular among the young population for its high ground clearance and compact dimensions. An ideal hatch for first-timers and entry-level buyers, it can also be found in the used cars market (the existing version) at a nominal value.

New Hyundai Elite i20

The launch of the third-gen Elite i20 premium hatchback is expected to take place around June 2020. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, it gets a fresh face with a sporty stance on the outside and a heavy equipment list with an updated infotainment system inside the cabin.

Expected to obtain a choice of 1.0L turbo-petrol engine (apart from 1.2L petrol & 1.5L diesel), the Hyundai i20 will see the BS6 compliant powertrain under the hood. This premium hatch can also be easily found in the second hand cars market (the existing version) at a reasonable price tag.

Tata Tiago EV

Riding high on the success of the Tiago, Tata Motors is expected to introduce the electric version of the car this year. It will be powered by a 30kW electric motor and a 216Ah battery pack. If the setup comes with a fast-charging function, it will be able to attain a range of around 130km range per charge with a decent top speed of 100kmph.

Maruti S-Presso CNG

The environment and pocket-friendly version of the latest hatch S-Presso will see a factory-fitted BS6 obeying CNG model soon. Intended towards buyers seeking high fuel mileage, the petrol-only (K-series 1.0L, 3-cylinder) car features 5-speed manual and AMT options. Maruti claims a mileage of 31.59 km/kg for the S-Presso CNG with power and torque outputs of 59PS and 78Nm respectively.
