Want To Study In UK? Know How to Apply For a Student Visa in the UK

From its world-class universities and breathtaking architecture to its vibrant culture, the UK has a lot to offer to students. But before you fly to pursue your dream of higher education, you need to complete many formalities here, the most important being your UK Visa.

So, if you’re someone who’s already been accepted to a UK university, or are looking to study in UK, here’s how you apply for the UK Visa.

Types of UK Visa

Before you apply for a VISA, it’s essential to know which one to apply for. Generally, students above the age of 16 require a Tier-4 student VISA. You need to apply for this visa three months before your programme starts.

If you have been accepted to a long-term course, you need to arrive in the UK one month before the programme begins. On the other hand, if you’ve enrolled in a short-term course (6-months or below), you need to arrive a week before the programme start date.

Tier-4 student visas are also available for children and sponsored students. For a short-term course, you must apply for a short-term study visa.

Requirements for a Tier-4 student visa

To get the Tier-4 UK visa, you must have:

  • An unconditional offer for a programme from a Tier-4 sponsor
  • The ability  to read, speak, and understand English
  • Financial proofs showing that you have enough money to support your education and stay in the UK

Next, go to the UK government’s website, select the visa category you fall under, fill the form, and pay a registration fee worth £348.

Step 3: Furnish documentation

Lastly, you need to print the application and provide supporting documentation.

Documents required for a Tier-4 student visa

When applying for a UK visa, you typically need to submit:

  • Your current passport
  • Passport-sized colour photographs
  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number
  • Documents used to obtain CAS
  • Assessment documentation
  • Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance certificate (only if required)
  • Evidence that you have enough funds to support your living expenses

If you’re falling short on funds, you can always take a personal loan for education to back your visa application.
