Maruti Suzuki Ignis Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Swift has long been one of the most popular cars in the used car market. With the launch of the 2018 variant, it now competes with Maruti’s other hatchback – the Ignis. It is not that the models are targeted at the same market, but the overlapping price points make a comparison unavoidable. This article will look at how the two face off and help you to make a better decision if you’re planning to take a second-hand car loan to buy one of these cars.

Space

When you look at the Ignis, the first thing you would notice is its height. It is a small, but tall car. If you are looking to get a car for a family of four, the Ignis may be sufficient. It has enough headroom for even taller passengers. New Swift, on the other hand, is a spacious car. Swift 2018 has a wider body and wheelbase, making the rear seat comfortable for three passengers.

The Ride

While Swift offers great handling experience to the driver, the suspension is not that soft. It can smoothen some of the potholes but expect to feel a few bumps in the cabin. Ignis, on the other hand, offers a softer ride, but the handling isn’t as controlled as Swift.

Resale Value

Swift is a brand name that commands immediate recognition in the Indian market. It has long been considered the king of second-hand cars, and this is one of the reasons it has a great resale value. The Ignis has also been selling well, but the tall design makes it look quirky for some.

The Base Variants

In the base variant, the Ignis has better outside rearview mirror and front power windows – something that the Swift lacks. If you are looking to buy a second-hand car and size isn’t a concern, then Maruti Suzuki Ignis may be a better option for you – given the price parity. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a car that will seat five passengers comfortably, then Maruti Suzuki Swift is the one for you.

Ignis Delta gets a few more features over the base model – wheel covers, steering mounted controls for the audio system, electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors with turn indicator, day and night inside rearview mirrors, keyless entry, and rear power windows. These may make it an attractive car, but if you are going in for a second-hand car loan, consider these additional features only if they cost you less than Rs 40,000 on-road.

If you are looking at the top models – both the Swift Z and the Ignis Alpha come with best-in-class features. At a similar price point, the Swift Z may be a better purchase because of the larger size.
