Microsoft Surface Duo folding smartphone launching soon

Unfortunately, a couple of years ago when Microsoft ventured into the smartphone market with its Windows phones, the brand found it difficult to match up to Android. But the software giant is testing waters again and gearing up for a sensational return. The company recently unveiled its long-awaited dual-screen folding smartphone at an event in New York. Notably, this was the first smartphone from the company since it closed its operations three years ago.

Will the new Microsoft Surface Duo Folding smartphone be able to make a place for itself in a world dominated by Samsung and Apple? Read on and decide for yourself.

Folding Body

Microsoft Surface Duo Folding smartphone is a complete stunner. The phone opens up like a book into an 8.3-inch screen. When unfolded, users can run different apps on both screens simultaneously. The second screen can also be used as a keyboard, a game controller or a laptop. You can write, text, or do whatever you want. When folded, the two 5.6-inch screens are thin enough to easily fit into your pocket or purse. The two screens are connected with a 360-degree hinge which ensures there is no crease. One of the biggest advantages that Surface Duo has over other folding phones is its glass screen. Other smartphones generally use a polymer screen that is delicate and prone to damage.

Wholesome Device

Microsoft does not want its upcoming Surface Duo to be just another phone. Microsoft’s chief product officer, Panos Panay gave a statement, expressing that, “Phone is a limiting word, and then you say, ‘well, Smartphone.’ I don’t even know what that means. And then ‘phablet.’ I’m not sure what that is. I think if you’re going to create a new category, you’re going to try to change things, push things forward”.

An Android Machine

Who would have thought that Microsoft will one day use Google’s Android operating system in its device. Microsoft could not capture the consumers’ attention with Windows OS, which is why the brand has now decided to go with Android, that also happens to be the most widely-used smartphone operating system in the world. However, since there will be a new version of Android by the time Surface Duo arrives, we’ll have to wait and watch which version Microsoft decides to go with.

Specifications and more

Surface Duo will be equipped with a Snapdragon 855 chip. It’s worth noting that a lot of its specifications remain unknown at this point. The only two confirmed features are a USB-C port and a fingerprint sensor.

Release Date and Price

Microsoft Surface Duo will be launched in the holiday season of 2020. The company has not made any official announcements about the price yet. But considering the price of similar folding smartphones, Surface Duo might cost Rs.2, 00,000 in India.

It is clear that Microsoft’s Smart Duo is much more than just a regular smartphone.
